For example, a 40:1 mix uses about 3.2 ounces of oil per gallon of gas. If your preferred oil costs $12 for a 16-ounce bottle, the oil adds about $2.40 per gallon. A gallon of $3.50 gas becomes roughly $5.90 of ready-to-run premix.

At 100 MPG, that works out to about 5.9 cents per mile instead of 3.5 cents. It is still inexpensive transportation, but it is a useful distinction when comparing a 2-stroke machine with a 4-stroke model.
